    How Chagua Works

    Chagua helps you find out who is asking for your vote and what they stand for. Here is how to use the site, and how we build and check what you see.

    1. Find who is on your ballot

    Open My Ballot and choose your county. Chagua shows the aspirants for President, Governor, Senator and Woman Representative in your county. We are adding constituency and ward, so that MP and MCA aspirants appear as well once those profiles are added.

    2. Read a profile

    Each profile shows the same basic information, so no one gets an advantage from a better-designed page:

    • Name, photo and position sought
    • Party or independent status
    • Background and experience
    • Manifesto priorities or campaign platform, with a link to the original document where one is available
    • Official contact and social media links
    • Status, and the date we last verified the profile

    3. Understand the status labels

    The field changes quickly as people declare, defect and get nominated, so every profile carries a label:

    Status What it means
    Aspirant Has publicly said they want the seat, but is not yet nominated.
    Party-nominated Has been chosen by their party.
    IEBC-cleared Has been cleared by the IEBC to appear on the ballot.

    We update statuses as official announcements are made. Where someone changes party or withdraws, the profile is updated and the change is noted.

    4. What “Verified” means

    A Verified badge means we confirmed that the profile belongs to the person or party it names. We do this by comparing the name and the official link we were given with the candidate’s or party’s own website or verified social media account. We may also ask the account owner to post a short code from that official page, or contact the party secretariat.

    Some profiles are compiled by Chagua from public sources and have not been claimed yet. They carry a Claim button, and claiming one starts the same verification.

    Verified does not mean we have fact-checked every statement in a manifesto or campaign message. Read claims critically, and use the source links we provide.

    5. Where our information comes from

    • The candidate, party, or their authorised representative
    • Official publications: IEBC notices, the Registrar of Political Parties, party websites and party announcements
    • Credible news reports, always linked

    If we can’t confirm a detail, we leave it out rather than guess.

    6. Compare and save

    Use Compare to view candidates or parties side by side. Comparisons use the same fields for everyone and don’t rank anyone. Create a free voter account to save profiles to your own list.

    7. Events and key dates

    Campaign events are listed on the site. Event organisers can submit an event, and we review it before it appears.

    8. Fair treatment

    • Chagua doesn’t endorse or oppose any candidate, party or coalition.
    • Where we highlight profiles, for example on the homepage, we list them alphabetically. We never choose them by payment or preference.
    • Any paid or promoted content is clearly labelled “Sponsored” and never affects how someone appears in search or comparisons.

    9. Spot a mistake? Tell us

    Every profile has a Request a correction link, which opens our correction form. You can also email [email protected]. If you are the person named and want a correction or removal, tell us and we will review it within 2 working days. Significant corrections are noted on the profile.

    10. Adding a profile, party or event

    Candidates, parties and organisers can register an account and submit a listing through Add Profile / Add Party / Add Event. Candidate and party accounts are verified first, usually within 2 working days, and nothing is published until it is approved. We may ask for proof that you are who you say you are, and we may decline or remove listings that are misleading, impersonate someone or break our rules.

    Verification is never for sale, and payment never speeds it up.

    What Chagua doesn’t do

    • We don’t tell you who to vote for.
    • We don’t predict or publish election results.
    • We aren’t part of the IEBC or any government body. For official voter registration and polling information, visit the IEBC website.
