Operational readiness in the maritime domain depends not only on surface capabilities but also on specialised underwater skills that enable personnel to operate safely and effectively beneath the surface. Developing these capabilities strengthens the Kenya Navyโ€™s capacity to respond to underwater threats and support a wide range of maritime operations.

On 2 October 2026, the Kenya Navy graduated trainees of the Diving Instructor Course and Basic Diver Course, marking the successful completion of specialised training designed to enhance the serviceโ€™s underwater capabilities.

The graduation ceremony was presided over by Colonel Robert Birech, who congratulated the graduates for successfully completing the demanding courses. He underscored the importance of specialised diving skills in enhancing safety, operational effectiveness and readiness in maritime operations.
