A Nairobi court has allowed police to continue holding Samuel Karanja Gathoni alias Wakili, a suspect in the murder of Dr Victoria Mutiso, for 14 more days as authorities consider placing him under the Witness Protection Programme.
The court heard that Gathoni, listed as the third respondent in an application filed on October 1, 2026, provided investigators with information considered crucial to the murder investigation, prompting the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to consider using him as a prosecution witness.
“The 3rd respondent gave crucial information to the investigating team hence the ODPP and investigating team intends to use them as prosecution witness,” court documents state.
