NAIROBI, Kenya Oct 4 -Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been unveiled as the interim leader and presidential candidate of The Equitable Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

TEP was fully registered on on March 25th, 2022 as a model party according to Office of Registrar of the Political Parties.

The outgoing party leader said the move is part of a restructuring process intended to bring in leaders and political formations that share the party’s ideals.

The ECI has rejected allegations of wrongdoing. Kumar himself has not commented.

The petitioners, Thomson Kerongo and Asiago Stephen, allege that Safaricom deactivates SIM cards after a specified period of inactivity, ordinarily six months, before subsequently reallocating the corresponding mobile numbers…

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Public Petitions Committee has received a petition challenging Safaricom PLC’s compliance with statutory and constitutional obligations governing the deactivation and reassignment of SIM cards and mobile numbers.

The petitioners, Thomson Kerongo and Asiago Stephen, allege that Safaricom deactivates SIM cards after a specified period of inactivity, ordinarily six months, before subsequently reallocating the corresponding mobile numbers to new subscribers.

They contend that affected subscribers are not always given adequate notice before their SIM cards are deactivated and the numbers reassigned, raising concerns about the impact on consumers who rely on the numbers for communication, financial transactions and access to various services.

When John Iliffe, who has died aged 87, wrote his book The African Poor: A History (1987), the continent was readily dismissed by many academics as a home of problems and poverty, with no intellectual depth. But Iliffe acknowledged no such limitations, and it came as no surprise that it won the African Studies Association’s best book prize, then known as the Herskovits prize.

In Iliffe’s view, people who are excluded from production, productive resources and land in otherwise land-rich economies are not just statistics who merely suffer. Their individual and collective struggles create a history of heroism and refusal to surrender. They also change social structures by their ambition to continue to struggle and perhaps one day to succeed.
