The World Meteorological Organisation has issued its most unequivocal El Niño forecast in 76 years, pointing to near certainty that the phenomenon will persist through early 2027.
Subsurface temperatures in the Pacific are already reported to be as much as 8°C above normal, prompting UN Secretary-General António Guterres to warn that climate patterns are “supersizing before our eyes.”
