Business owners in Kagio town, Ndia, Kirinyaga County, are counting losses running into millions of shillings after a fire razed several businesses early Friday morning.

The fire broke out at around 3 am, destroying hotels, salons, video halls and other businesses. Its cause remains unknown.

Residents led by Gerald Kimani said efforts to contain the blaze were hampered by delays in getting firefighting support. They claimed the Kirinyaga County fire brigade failed to respond in time, forcing residents to rely on available water to fight the fire.
