Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has responded to President William Ruto's continued mockery of his lengthy stint in politics and leadership.

Addressing a crowd in Bondo town, Siaya County on Sunday, Kalonzo agreed that indeed he has been a mainstay in Kenyan politics, with vast experience as a politician and leader, but said in those years he has not committed some of the atrocities allegedly committed by other leaders.

"It's true I have been around for 40 years as Ruto claims, but I have not killed anyone's child, I have defended the rule of the law together with other many leaders. I have been here for 40 years, but I haven't done what others have done in 5 or 10 years," Kalonzo said.

Online harassment targeting journalists has escalated into a global crisis. Across digital public spheres, it threatens press freedom and individual safety.

In Kenya, this hostility often unfolds on social media platforms like X and Facebook, where journalists covering politically sensitive events face coordinated attacks. For instance, following critical coverage of state policies or public protests, journalists are regularly branded as โ€œpolitical mercenariesโ€ or โ€œtraitorsโ€ in comment threads, prompting audiences to swarm their personal accounts with threats.

Digital attacks like these actively erode public trust in news institutions. They create a hostile environment that pressures journalists towards self-censorship. Yet, these attacks also unfold before audiences whose reactions can strengthen or weaken their effects.

President William Ruto begins an 8-day development tour of the Coast region on Saturday with two key issues on the agenda – the issuance of nearly 200,000 title deeds and the groundbreaking of a new refinery in Lamu.

The tour, covering Taita-Taveta, Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa, Tana River and Lamu counties, will provide the President with an opportunity to assess the progress of Government projects in the region while engaging residents and local leaders on development priorities.

The issuance of title deeds is part of the Governmentโ€™s plan to distribute 500,000 land ownership documents as it seeks to address longstanding squatter and other land-related challenges that have affected communities in the Coast region for decades.
