An Ecuadorian Catholic priest passed away after a wooden crucifix fell on him while he was officiating Mass in a church in the country’s southwest coastal city of Guayaquil.
The incident happened on Saturday night, October 17, 2026, at Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro Church in Guayaquil.
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil identified the priest who died in the accident as Father Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari.
