Wilson Wambugu, a 27-year-old man who was sentenced to 80 years in prison, has been freed after the High Court in Nyeri overturned his conviction and acquitted him of all charges.
Justice Kizito Magare delivered the ruling on Friday, October 16, 2026, allowing Wambugu’s appeal against the conviction and sentence imposed by a lower court.
Wambugu’s case began in 2023 when he was working as a farmhand for one of his relatives in Nyeri, earning Ksh 6,000 per month.
