Mama Ida Odinga has defended the Odinga family’s decision to invite former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders who held differing views from Raila Odinga while he was alive to the first anniversary memorial of the former Prime Minister, saying the invitations reflected her late husband’s relationships with people across the political divide.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 17, Ida expressed regret over the booing, shouting and alleged intimidation directed at some guests during the October 15 commemoration in Bondo, Siaya County.
She maintained that all guests invited by the family were welcome, despite political differences, and urged leaders to respect one another during events honouring the late opposition leader.
