President William Ruto has directed an inspection of all public service vehicles to guarantee compliance with safety standards after 24 people died in an accident along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Makueni County on Sunday.
The 24 died after a bus belonging to Power of the Word Church International, Mombasa, and a commercial cement tipper truck collided head-on at Kanga near Mtito Andei as the bus was reportedly ferrying passengers returning from a burial ceremony.
The Ministry of Roads, in a statement, indicated that reports suggest the accident occurred due to improper overtaking.
