The United States has backed a technical extension of the United Nations Security Council resolution on the Darfur arms embargo until December 11, citing ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and negotiated settlement in Sudan.

US Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos said the decision followed consultations with Quad partners, allies and members of the UN Security Council.

Boulos said the extension would provide additional time for diplomatic initiatives aimed at securing a humanitarian truce, a durable ceasefire and a negotiated end to the conflict.
