Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir has announced three key measures to improve road safety following a fatal crash at Kanga, near Mtito Andei, that claimed 22 lives.
In a statement on October 25, 2026, Chirchir said the government would strengthen road safety infrastructure, intensify traffic enforcement, and improve the training and oversight of commercial vehicle and public service vehicle (PSV) drivers.
The announcement followed a head-on collision involving a passenger bus belonging to Power of the Word Church International, Mombasa, and a commercial cement tipper truck along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.
