NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 29 – Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has threatened to mobilise 10,000 Kenyans to occupy the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) headquarters, escalating pressure on the electoral agency to explain voter registration in border counties ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Gachagua said the commission must disclose the number of voters registered in Wajir, Mandera and other border regions, warning that failure to provide satisfactory answers would trigger demonstrations targeting both its headquarters and constituency offices across the country.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party leader said he had agreed with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino to demand an explanation from the commission over the registration exercise. Their positions on the proposed protests were not independently established.
