NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 3 — Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has denied that security officers arrested or detained missing Tanzanian activist Twaha Mwaipaya, even as he faced questions in the High Court over investigations into a wave of abductions.
Appearing before the Milimani High Court on Tuesday, Kanja told Justice Alexander Muteti that Mwaipaya had never been in police custody anywhere in the country, distancing the National Police Service from his disappearance.
“My Lord, I’d wish to inform this court we don’t have the subject in our custody throughout the Republic of Kenya,” Kanja said.
