Assets under management held by Kenya’s pensions industry are growing steadily (Kes 3.2 trillion as at June ’26) but inclusion of coverage remains a huge challenge. Official data shows that only 3 out of every 10 working age Kenyans are in formal pension scheme. We speak to Jacqueline Karasha on the back of the release of Sanlam Allianz Ke’s inaugural Retirement Benchmark Report for the Kenyan market. We discuss the strides made in widening distribution of pension & retirement preparation solutions as well as the gaps that remain including abysmal coverage in the vast informal segment of the labour market.
