The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has called on the government to declare road traffic crashes a national disaster to facilitate urgent interventions and reduce fatalities on Kenyan roads.
In a statement on Sunday, October 25, NTSA Director General Eng. Nashon Kondiwa said the country records approximately 20,000 road crashes annually, resulting in more than 5,000 deaths.
“Road crashes have reached a national emergency level, with about 20,000 crashes claiming over 5,000 lives annually, destroying families, overwhelming our health system and eroding economic productivity,” Kondiwa said.
