President William Ruto has revoked Bishop Margaret Wanjiru’s appointment as chairperson of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, replacing her with former Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa for a three-year term.

The decision comes after Wanjiru wrote to the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, giving 30 days’ notice of her intention to resign, stating that she wanted to move on and focus on other work, indicating that she would leave office on August 31, and asked the government to appoint her replacement early enough to facilitate a smooth handover.

In a Gazette Notice dated October 16, 2026, Ruto appointed Marwa to lead the commission with effect from the same date, formally revoking Wanjiru’s appointment.
