Candidate announcement
In Kenyan politics, timing is never just timing. It is a signal, a strategy, or—in the case of Governor Johnson Sakaja’s decision on October 21, 2026—a spectacular own goal.
On the surface, the dismissal of Geoffrey Mosiria from his role as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement, and Customer Service looked like a routine cabinet reshuffle. The circular from County Secretary Dr Machel Waikenda cited the County Governments Act and reassigned three chief officers. It did not mention misconduct, underperformance, or a single failure of duty.
But the document’s silence spoke louder than any accusation could have. Because just ten days earlier, on October 11, Mosiria had stood in a church in Nairobi and declared he would run for Governor in 2027—against his own boss.
