But in Majenjeni, Kilifi County, 22-year-old Elijah Mwadai sees something bigger: an opportunity to protect indigenous plants, preserve traditional knowledge and safeguard biodiversity whose full potential may not yet be understood.
He bends down, collects a seed and helps nurture it into a seedling destined for the landscape around the Sabaki Estuary.
