Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been ordered to pay a total of Sh21 million in fines following his conviction in a corruption case involving the irregular award of a Sh588.7 million road construction tender during his time in office.

Chief Magistrate Harrison Barasa of the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court imposed the penalties on Waititu for three counts linked to the controversial procurement deal during his tenure as Governor. Waititu was fined Sh10 million on Count 10, Sh6 million on Count 11 and Sh5 million on Count 12. Failure to pay the fines could see him serve a combined 13-year prison sentence.

His wife, Susan Wangari Ndungโ€™u, alongside other co-accused individuals and companies linked to the tender, also received various fines and alternative prison terms. Saika Two Estate Developers Limited and Testimony Enterprises Limited were among the companies fined, while Charles Mbuthia Chege and Beth Wangeci Mburu also received financial penalties.
