Kenyans could continue benefiting from reduced Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel after the National Assembly passed the Tax Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which seeks to keep the rate at 8% for another three months.
Sponsored by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, the Bill was passed on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The Bill proposes to retain the reduced VAT rate on petrol, diesel and kerosene at 8%, down from the standard rate of 16%, to cushion consumers against rising global fuel prices amid tensions in the Middle East.
