A case has been filed at the Milimani Law Court seeking to stop the government from committing public funds or resources towards the proposed international friendly match between German football giants FC Bayern Munich and Dutch side AFC Ajax, scheduled for January 5, 2027, at Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City Complex in Nairobi.
In an application filed by a group of Kenyan citizens and human rights defenders, the petitioners want the court to issue conservatory orders restraining the government and other respondents from authorising, allocating, releasing or spending public money towards the highly anticipated football match pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The petitioners are also seeking orders compelling the respondents to disclose, within seven days, the full sponsorship agreements and contracts entered into with the two European clubs or their representatives.
